Obituary for Prof. Dr. Hans-Ulrich Hummel
Prof. Dr. Hans-Ulrich Hummel, executive board member at Knauf Gips KG, died at the age of 63 on 18.08.2017. Prof. Hummel occupied positions of responsibility at Knauf in Iphofen since 1992, where he headed the research and development department for more than 20 years. His last position was as director of product management, patent management and quality management for the entire Knauf Group.
With great passion and enthusiasm, he committed himself to transforming scientific research findings into practical solutions. Far beyond corporate boundaries, he was known among all significant national and international associations and professional circles within the gypsum industry as a competent point person.
The German Gypsum Association, too, bemourns Prof. Hummel as a dedicated champion of the interests of the German and European gypsum industry. He was a valued member of the research association’s scientific advisory council and of various other relevant committees. For many years, Prof. Hummel played a leading role in representing the German Gypsum Association at Eurogypsum.
With his passing, the building material industry has lost both a visionary and a mentor.
