LEAG reliably supply fuels for the lime and cement industry

High-grade pulverized lignite processed from refined Lausitz lignite will also continue to contribute to the reliable and low-cost energy supply to the lime and cement industry in the future. Under the names Lausitz Energie Bergbau AG and Lausitz Energie Kraftwerke AG (LEAG), the companies of the former Vattenfall Lignite Division with the new owners Energetický a Průmyslový Holding (EPH) and PPF Investments, remain one of the four largest energy suppliers in Germany and are actively continuing the processed lignite business.

At the head of the joint board of the two companies is Dr Helmar Rendez, the former finance director. The former CEO, Dr. Hartmuth Zeiss, has been elected by the supervisory boards of LEAG Bergbau and LEAG Kraftwerke as their chairman.

In the Lausitz region, LEAG operates the opencast mines Jänschwalde, Welzow Süd, Nochten and Reichwalde. The company’s power plants include Jänschwalde, Schwarze Pumpe and Boxberg power plants in the Lausitz region as well as a 50 % share in Lippendorf power plant in Central Germany.

At the Schwarze Pumpe site, LEAG produces over 1.7 million t of fuel such as the pulverized lignite dust LignoPlus, fluidized-bed lignite and briquets. The indigenous fuel LignoPlus which is largely independent of the global market, is used in many branches of industry as an effective alternative to natural gas, fuel oil or coal. Besides the lime and cement industry, LEAG supplies customers in the asphalt industry, utility suppliers as well as heating plants in the paper, foodstuffs and chemicals industry in 17 countries.
