Large-scale investment project completed
At the Satka production site of Magnezit Group (Satka, Chelyabinsk region/Russia), in August 2014 the first multi-hearth furnace for calcination of magnesite on the territory of CIS (Community of Indpendant States) was commissioned. It marked the completion of a large-scale investment project of the group, establishing a complex for the production of periclase clinkers – a new plant, construction of which, without any exaggeration, can be called a new stage in the development of the refractory industry in Russia. Multi-hearth furnaces are an alternative to rotary kilns, which operate in the refractory industry.
The multi-hearth furnace with a production capacity of 100 000 t/a was developed specially for the Magnezit Group by the German Polysius AG, now Thyssen Krupp Industrial Solutions (TKIS), from Essen/Germany. It consists of 19 hearths and has no analogues not only on the territory of Russia and the CIS, but even on a world scale. The equipment is state-of-the-art after international standards, including those of energy efficiency and environmental safety. The used raw material comes from the Magnezit Group deposit in the Krasnoyarsk area.
Among the main advantages of this type of oven are the production of calcined magnesia with sustained quality; the reduction of dust emission by 99 % compared to rotary kilns; the return for burning all trapped caustic dust; double reduction of specific fuel consumption per ton of available calcined magnesia comparied to rotary kilns; cutting by 50 % of raw material loss due to poor burning; decrease of maintenance charges and repair costs by nearly the factor of 3.
