Kirchdorf cement plant restarts kiln after 63-day downtime
The rotary kiln at the Kirchdorf cement plant was shut down for 63 days until 11 March 2024. During this time, the employees spent 31000 working hours breaking out and installing 190 t of refractory material. In addition, both grinding-drying plants were completely overhauled, 150 t of grinding balls were removed and refilled at the cement mills and 90 motors were re-stored.
Important investment projects were also implemented during the kiln shutdown: The double-shaft hammer crusher at the Micheldorf quarry was equipped with a new feed plate conveyor and new crusher rotors. An intermediate floor and a Gottwald screw discharge system were installed in the refuse derived fuel silo 1 in record project time and two refuse derived fuel belt weighers were replaced with sealed screw weighing systems. The “Kirchdorfer Lions” (“Kirchdorfer Löwen”) realized the entire measurement, regulation and control technology in-house.
This year, Dr Christian Dörfel, Member of the Provincial Parliament, performed the ceremonial lighting of the oven. He was supported by production foreman Maximilian Schörkhuber and Johann Wiggenhauser, who is responsible for the plant infrastructure.
Dr Christian Dörfel emphasized: “The Kirchdorfer Zementwerk stands for tradition and modernity and has ensured the best cement quality, jobs and prosperity in our region since 1888. I would like to thank all the employees of Kirchdorfer Zementwerk, who have delivered top performance in their respective roles, and wish them a good kiln journey without any problems.”
Finally, Dr Christian Dörfel presented Erich Frommwald with a horseshoe as a symbol of “good luck and God’s blessing”, which will be given a place of honour in the Kirchdorfer Zementwerk.
