Holcim Germany becomes Impact Partner of the Cradle to
Cradle NGO

As a pioneer in sustainable, climate-friendly construction, Holcim Germany is committed to the goal of a circular economy. Through the Impact Partnership with the C2C NGO, Holcim is expanding its network for the resource turnaround to jointly develop innovative solutions for a circular construction industry.

Currently, the construction industry in Germany is responsible for more than 50% of the total waste generated. Holcim is working to change this – resources are to be used in a cycle rather than in a linear fashion in the future. The non-profit Cradle to Cradle NGO (C2C NGO) is pursuing precisely this goal: With its “Cradle to Cradle” approach, it aims to establish a continuous and consistent circular economy that begins with the material-healthy and recyclable design of products. To this end, the NGO carries out educational work, initiates transformation projects and networks business, science, education and politics through various formats such as congresses, forums, lectures and workshops.

As a C2C Impact Partner, Holcim Germany is now part of this valuable network, which is working together to use innovative ideas to shape the future of our society in a way that is ecologically, economically and socially worth living.

Holcim as a driving force in a cross-sector network

“By adopting a circular economy in construction, we not only reduce waste, but also our carbon footprint and the consumption of natural resources,” says CEO Thorsten Hahn. “In addition to our collaboration with the re!source Foundation and Madaster, a digital directory for buildings and materials, the partnership with the C2C NGO is another building block on the way to this goal. Through these collaborations and networks, we set impulses and get ideas for our product development ourselves by exchanging ideas with other C2C pioneers within the industry and beyond, as well as with politicians.”

Wolter Student, member of the executive board of the C2C NGO welcomes the cooperation with Holcim Germany: “We are delighted about the partnership with Holcim – a market-leading building materials group is inspired by C2C and wants to move towards a true circular economy. This is an important step for a sustainable construction industry.” In the coming talks, the common goal of a circular economy in the construction and real estate industry will be underpinned by a joint action plan.
