New markets and technologies

After the very successful celebration of the 125-year anniversary of Haver & Boecker on Friday 24.08.2012, and the Open Day in the Wire Weaving Division on 25.08.2012, 350 customers, representatives and employees of the Haver Group from Germany and abroad met for the Haver Technology Days 2012 in the A2 Forum in Rheda/Germany (Fig. 1). The objective of the event was to inform international guests about the organisational and technical developments originating from the family-owned company, to get a feel for the international tendencies and to bundle activities within the Haver Group.

Strategy Day

On the first day of the event, called the Strategy Day, Managing Director and Partner of Haver & Boecker Dr. Reinhold Festge was able to line-up a number of renowned speakers: Prof. Dr. Georg Unland (Saxony State Minister for Finance and Professor at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg), Dr. Martin Wansleben (General Managing Director of the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce), Dr. Aliko Dangote (President of the Dangote Group in Nigeria; (Fig. 2).

Technical Exhibtion

In a large exhibition hall of Haver & Boecker in Oelde, the parent company and its subsidiary companies Feige Filling, Sommer, Newtec Bag Palletizing and Ibau Hamburg presented the mainstays of their product lines. In addition, the new partner MSK Tensiontech demonstrated its stretch hood system. Products from the newly acquired subsidiary company Newtec Bag Palletizing were shown to customers for the first time (Fig. 3). Both palletizers Agropal G300 and Batipal 4000 generated much interest. Thanks to the palletizer, Haver & Boecker is now able to offer a complete process chain.

The SpeedFlexx Loader (Fig. 4), a new development from Haver & Boecker, attracted a great deal of attention due to its high loading speed and the unique logistical flexibility it offers to the market. The SpeedFlexx now rounds out Haver shipping logistics by combining direct, just-in-time, loading and conventional palletizing technology with stocking. With this new development Haver & Boecker has now become a full line provider (Fig. 5).

The Haver SpeedFlexx is a high-speed direct truck-loading unit with a loading speed of up to 260 tonnes per hour. The flexibility of the system also allows delivery to stock in the event of dead truck times. Therefore high packing and palletizing plant capacity utilisation is ensured even during times of missing trucks. By combining the proven components of stationary palletizing technology with conveying technology, the SpeedFlexx system offers unique and reliable operation. Filled bags as well as sheets are handled with shipping and in-house pallets.

The loading cycle begins with the scanning of the truck-bed surface. Using optical analysis technology, a three-dimensional image is generated and ensures that the truck is ready to be loaded. During the loading process, open trucks on two travel lanes are alternately loaded with stacks of bags. This is done by a feeding rack installed over the truck. Once the loading of the first truck is completed, the SpeedFlexx changes lanes within 11 seconds and the second truck, which in the meantime has been positioned in parallel, is then loaded.

The result: continuously high loading speeds are achieved during peak times. Considering the anti-cyclic demand of the daily profile of a loading system, timeframes with reduced truck frequency will lead to the filling of the adjacent pallet stock. Here stocking is handled in the usual manner: with forklift trucks. This enables continuous use of the packing and palletizing plant, and thus optimum utilisation of the installed capacity. Moreover, in the event of bottlenecks, it is also possible to reverse this process, i.e. to feed the SpeedFlexx from the filled stock.

Technology in focus

On the second day, the Technology Day focused on the latest technical trends and developments. Speakers from the specialised departments of Haver & Boecker, and the companies with whom the business units of Cement, Building Materials + Minerals and Chemicals of Haver & Boecker work together, informed customers about the technical innovations from their companies. The third day of the conference, the Communication Day, was reserved for the employees of the Haver Group.

Prepared for the future

Dr. Reinhold Festge (Fig. 6) was pleased that his sons Florian (W.S. Tyler) and Dr. Fabian Festge (Haver ibau India) were able to take part as managing directors of a Haver subsidiary. With effect from January 1, 2014, Dr. Reinhold Festge will hand over the management of the company to his sons.

The next Haver Technology Days is planned to take place in 2-3 years time.
