This year the 17th Arab International Cement Conference and Exhibition will take place at the World Trade Centre in Dubai from 17th to 19th December 2012. Experts from the cement industry will have the opportunity to inform themselves about new developments and market potentials in lectures and the accompanying exhibition and to exchange views. In the past, the conference was held alternating with the Arab International Conference and Exhibition on “Environmental Protection in the Cement & Building Materials Industries”. ZKG INTERNATIONAL interviewed Ahmad Al-Rousan, the Secretary General of the Arab Union for Cement and Building Materials (AUCBM), about this event and future plans.
ZKG: Mr. Al-Rousan, what is the program or focus of this year’s conference?
Ahmad Al-Rousan: Actually, the AUCBM cement conference this year will tackle all aspects related to the cement industry; technical, economic, trade and environmental. It will cover the following themes: new technological developments in the field of cement, sustainable development in the cement industry, alternative fuels, case studies, quality assurance and quality control, laboratory automation, new cements and modern process control techniques. The program will be continuously updated at our homepage

ZKG: Environmental aspects become more and more important with every building material conference. Will the division in a cement conference (this year) and an environmental conference (last year) be retained in the future?
Ahmad Al-Rousan: Well, no. We decided to integrate the two conferences in one event, namely the “Cement” conference. The reason is that the environmental aspect is taking a considerable part of our biennial cement conference, so this theme is being approached each year in all cases. This would provide the chance to discuss other important subjects annually as well.
ZKG: Mr. Al-Rousan, thank you for the interview.
