News from Cembureau: Maritime emissions
The first meeting of the European Climate Change Programme Working Group 6 (Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ships) was recently held. The overall objective of the group is to provide input to the Commission in its work to develop and assess options for the inclusion of international maritime transport in the EU‘s greenhouse gas reduction commitment. The European Commission is expected to come forward with a proposal to include international maritime emissions in the EU’s reduction commitment (should there be no sufficient international agreement addressing these emissions) by the end of December 2011.
