CEMEX Cement Concrete Forum 2010 very well received

About 200 participants – almost twice as much as usual – met at the CEMEX Cement Concrete Forum held at the cultural centre in Rüdersdorf near Berlin on 16 November 2010. The topic of this year’s event was “Lasting – Durable”.

Famous buildings, such as the Pantheon in Rome, testify to the durability of buildings set up according to the concrete construction method and, at the same time, illustrate the courage for further technological development. The manufacturers of cement and concrete as well as all those participating in construction take up the new technological challenges with new technological solutions. These challenges are mainly due to the necessity to reduce the CO2 emissions and to the internationalization of the construction processes. Concrete for frost attack with thawing means at high water saturation(exposure class XF4) without the introduction of artificial entrained air or concrete with increased acid resistance (Fig.) are new solutions to ensure the required durability of buildings. Currently, readymix concrete with increased acid resistance from CEMEX is used for the extension of the sewage disposal facility Potsdam West where a total of approximately 200 m³ will be placed. The optimal utilization of the clinker efficiency, the use of secondary fuels and other main components are possibilities to reduce the CO2 emission per ton of cement.

CEMEX has organized and is organizing specialist events, such as the Concrete Forum and the Seminar on Blast Furnace Cement, to pursue this path of continuous development together with their project partners and customers. Thus, on 16.11.2010, in a total of nine lectures, lecturers at this year’s CEMEX Cement Concrete Forum showed exemplary aspects of the planning possibilities for lasting concrete components and buildings and for their implementation in practice.
