EU “emphasises” the importance of access to raw materials
The European Minerals Day partners welcome the recently issued EU Communication on “Tackling the challenges in commodity markets and on raw materials” as well as the emphasis which it places on the importance of raw materials. 70 % of EU manufacturing production depend on mined substances. This applies for example to the construction, chemicals, automotive, aerospace and machinery sectors, which provide a total added value of 1324 billion € and 30 million jobs. The European Minerals Day from 13.-15.05.2011 is coordinated at European level by IMA-Europe, the European Industrial Minerals Association, UEPG, the European Aggregates Association, and CEMBUREAU, the European Cement Association. Coordination at country level is ensured by national trade associations.
