EMC-filtration system for Amreyah Cement
Facing a field of strong international competitors, Scheuch GmbH of Aurolzmünster/Austria has won a contract to implement a new kiln dedusting system in a project commissioned by the Amreyah Cement Company in Borg El Arab, Alexandria/Egypt. In the new dedusting concept for the rotary kiln (capacity 3300 t/d), an EMC filtration system will be installed downstream of two existing electrostatic precipitators. The filter is dimensioned for a capacity of 636 000 Am3/h with a filter intake temperature of 100 °C to 250 °C (peak value) and is equipped with filter bags measuring 6000 mm and a diameter of 165 mm. While EMC technology only took third place during the competitive bidding process with respect to the level of investment costs, it scored heavily during the evaluation of operating costs and was able to carry the day convincingly with respect to life cycle costs (investment costs and operating costs). Decisive here were the substantially lower fan energy costs and the minimal consumption of compressed air when comparing EMC technology to online cleaning systems. Furthermore, the new concept for the crude gas pipe work that was optimized by Scheuch with the help of CFD simulations significantly reduces the pressure loss in the plant. When used in combination with EMC technology, this leads to an annual reduction in energy expenditures of 704 MW, which corresponds to proven savings in the six-figure € range. Finally, with the help of Scheuch’s 3D-layout planning tools it was possible to collaborate onsite with the customer during the project-planning phase to quickly develop the optimum plant layout while ensuring best-possible accessibility and while giving full consideration to the structural conditions.
