Oil Shale Cooperation Center (OSCC)
During the conference on “Regional Cooperation for Clean Utilization of Oil Shale”, that was held under the patronage of His Excellency Eng. Sameh Fahmy the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum in Sharm El Sheikh /Egypt on 24.–25.02.2010, the launch of the Oil Shale Cooperation Center (OSCC) was planned. The signature of the closing communique and founding document is scheduled to take place in Amman in April 2010. The objectives of the OSCC are to secure economical, efficient, and environmentally beneficial production and utilization of oil shale or its derivates within the meaning of sustainability. The meeting was attended by high level officials from Egypt, Jordan,
Morocco, Syria and Turkey, the League of Arab States (LAS), the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), the European Commission (EC) as well as many regional and international companies. The Euro-Mediterranean Energy Market Integration Project (MED-EMIP) is supporting the development of an environmentally friendly, energy efficient and financially attractive utilization of oil shale, which is considered as an unconventional hydrocarbon.
