thyssenkrupp Polysius and Fujairah Cement Industries cooperate on decarbonization of cement production
Memorandum of Understanding signed at COP28 in Dubai
thyssenkrupp Polysius and Fujairah Cement Industries (FCI), United Arab Emirates, intend to cooperate in the future to reduce CO2 emissions in FCI’s production lines. In particular, the potential use of alternative fuels in cement production will be examined. The memorandum of understanding was signed at the UN Climate Change Conference, COP28 for short, in Dubai.
Pablo Hofelich, CEO of thyssenkrupp Polysius GmbH: “thyssenkrupp Polysius has key technologies for significantly reducing CO2 emissions in the cement industry. We support our customers at every step of the implementation of “green” technologies as a partner. The aim is to ensure that our customers‘ plants not only emit fewer emissions, but also consume less energy and save resources.”
By using the prepol® SC combustion chamber developed by thyssenkrupp, coal, gas and oil can be replaced up to 100% by alternative fuels as the primary energy source at the calciner. In addition to conserving natural resources and minimizing emissions, this also significantly reduces operating costs. This is made possible by the use of different types of waste, low quality requirements and reduced processing costs. Thanks to its modular design, the prepol SC technology can be easily integrated into existing cement plants.
Other thyssenkrupp Polysius solutions for a “green” cement plant range from polysius® activated clay for more sustainable clinker production with calcined clay to the above-mentioned polysius fuel substitutions with prepol technology, polysius pure oxyfuel to reduce the cement industry‘s CO2 footprint and the NOx reduction solution from CemCat.
