Sustainable

Dear readers,

Once a year, ZKG CEMENT LIME GYPSUM is published with a green logo. Once a year, ZKG CEMENT LIME GYPSUM is dedicated to the topic of sustainability, future-proof cement production and ways to fulfil the various roadmaps of the cement and lime industry, for example. All the articles in this issue are written especially for the Green Challenge issue and provide a multifaceted overview of ways to save energy and CO2 and to develop new technologies for CO2-free production.

I had the opportunity to visit the Lägerdorf cement plant during NordBau. The Lägerdorf cement plant is part of the Holcim Group. At the heart of the CARBON2BUSINESS (C2B) project in Lägerdorf is the construction of a new kiln line 12. At the same time, the plant is to be converted to the oxyfuel process. The aim is to capture almost 100% of the CO2 produced. Read from page 6 onwards how the Lägerdorf cement plant is to become the first climate-neutral cement plant by 2029.

This Green Challenge issue also goes to the 9th International VDZ Congress in Düsseldorf on 6 to 8 November 2024, where the focus will be on the latest developments and challenges concerning the transformation of the cement industry on its way towards climate neutrality. The ZKG CEMENT LIME GYPSUM team will also be there and is looking forward to many new contacts and interesting discussions.

We wish you many new insights and an interesting time
