Green challenges: Updates from the cement, lime and gypsum industries

Dear readers,

Internationally, the cement, lime and gypsum industries are putting their efforts in decarbonization measures and are paving the path to CO2 neutrality until 2035, 2040 or 2050. But – if this goal is to be achieved at all – which measures must be taken into account and which levers need to be set in motion?

As in previous years, the ZKG team presents ideas on this topic from companies and authors around the world in our special edition “Green Challenge”. Once more, cement, lime and gypsum manufacturers as well as equipment manufacturers and suppliers show the extent to which the Green Challenge is influencing and driving their products, research and development – from new types of cements, alternative fuels or modern mixing technologies up to the production of calcinated clays, upgraded processes and sustainable packaging, just to mention a few aspects.

We would like to thank everybody involved in the making of ZKG’s “Green Challenge” issue 2025 for your great ideas, reflections on the sustainability of the industries and your contributions. Thanks to joint efforts, dear readers, you now hold in your hands a comprehensive overview of how we are progressing toward achieving CO2 neutrality in our industries. This shows once again that, despite all geopolitical conflicts, the cement, lime, and gypsum industry is presenting itself as a united front and is continuously working on joint solutions.

We wish you a pleasant and interesting read with year’s ZKG “Green Challenge” special issue.
