German Lime Association calls for structural reforms for a stable economic foundation
Martin Ogilvie, Managing Director of the German Lime Association, calls for structural reforms on the occasion of the adoption of the amendments to the Basic Law on the debt brake and a special infrastructure fund:
“An efficient state with clear structures forms the foundation for successful politics. This foundation is currently lacking. Germany is over-regulated and bureaucratically overburdened. As the lime industry, we therefore urge the future federal government to implement structural reforms - away from detailed regulations and towards setting a framework.”
“The reform of the debt brake should be used to do justice to the geopolitical tasks of national and alliance defense. Security is a basic prerequisite for economic success,” continued Martin Ogilvie. “The lime industry welcomes additional investment in infrastructure. Outdated structures must be modernized and new, forward-looking infrastructure created - for example for the transport of CO₂. It is crucial that the additional debt is used exclusively for additional investments and not for consumer spending. This will strengthen Germany’s economic foundation.”
Martin Ogilvie adds warningly: “The opportunity for modernization must be seized. This requires far-reaching structural reforms - from competitive taxes and the reduction of regulated levies and charges on energy costs to a more efficient and digital administration. Bureaucracy must be reduced by at least 25% compared to the current level. Without these structural reforms, the foundations will quickly crumble and Germany risks losing its competitiveness in the long term. If the reforms succeed, this will secure growth and prosperity. We are ready to work with the government to achieve this success.”
