(57) Cement mixtures comprising a hydration retarder comprising algae, cement additives comprising algae and/or derivatives thereof, and methods of forming and using the mixtures and additives are disclosed. The algae can be treated to form desired N functional groups to tune retardation properties of the hydration retarder.
